'I want to say something!'
(Forum: A Medium or meeting for an exchange of views).
Nothing like robust debate to generate interest in a thing. CDM is providing a forum for discussion on the hotel, and or anything else that you think might arouse interest or debate. We certainly encourage past guests to contribute their experiences so that others may gain an independent view on what it is to stay here I often have emails asking to be put in touch with other guests who have met on holiday but who forgot to swap email addresses. Ultimately we would like to create an online community where our guests continue their poolside chats.

The trend for our services to get wetter seems to be continuing. CDM has now acquired the latest 16 foot Hobie Cat designed for resort use. This means that it has comfort and safety in mind to suit a broader set of sailing skills. It is a gentle experience and can be enjoyed as a self sail or with a guide.

We welcome the return of Amir our first boatman who joins Mano, our current boat captain. Together they will team up to put together a comprehensive activity catalogue which will include all hotel activity as well as Island tours.

Throw the dice at Vegas, row a gondola in Venice, trek up to Machu Pichu, ride a horse on a sandy beach at sunset. While in Langkawi you can tick off one of these must-do-in-life activities. Twenty minutes by taxi from CDM and you are at the foot of Mount Matchinchang next to a babbling brook that is fed by the seven wells waterfall. It is from here that a stable of 20 well schooled horses cater to riders at all levels. Absolute beginners will led on a rope to get the feeling of what it is to ride while there are more challenging jungle treks for the experienced. Lessons can also be arranged for beginners wanting to develop a little more.

Dev Mahendra, Casa del Mar's environmental conscience, takes trips along the tributaries of the Kilim river mangrove system. On the way he stops intermittently to impart wisdom, gained since a child listening to his father provide jungle survival training to the Malaysian armed forces. Paddlers weave their way up narrow channels and stop for a short walk around caves that are only accessible by boat. After this the flotilla heads out to the wider river visiting points near cliff faces that feature fossils. The paddling efforts are then rewarded with a stop at the "Hole in the Wall" floating restaurant for a local seafood lunch. This has to rate as one of those life altering experiences and is highly recommended if you are here for any length of time.
'Mum, it's those academics again!'
Advancements in gene research have enabled the University of Langkawi agri department to succesfully breed their first fluorescent pink buffalo. Being more visible at night is seen as a major benefit for farmers and road users. Using the albino buffalo (pictured) as a starting point UOL have been able to develop the reflective qualities of fluorescence stimulated by light in fur follicles. The first calf will be introduced to media at the university's lecture hall on April 1st at 10.00am. More info at www.aprilfirst@uom-langkawi.com
